EPA Achieves Highest Status in Government Under the President's Management Agenda

EPA achieved the highest score possible on the President's Management Agenda (PMA): five 'greens' on all five government-wide initiatives. On Jan. 31, the White House Office of Management and Budget released the latest scorecard that uses a color-coded "stop light" system to rate each federal agency's status under each of the PMA initiatives.

The five initiatives include the Strategic Management of Human Capital, Performance Improvement, Expanded Electronic Government, Competitive Sourcing, and Improved Financial Performance. They enhance service to the American people by creating a government that is citizen-centered, results-oriented and market-based.

"This is a first for us and I am very proud of our achievement. Only three of the 26 agencies scored received the highest score. We are among the best in government," said Deputy Administrator Marcus Peacock. "This accomplishment reflects years of work and commitment to making EPA a center of management excellence in government."

The deputy administrator serves as EPA's Chief Operating Officer and has been working with EPA staff to continuously improve EPA's performance measures and encourage innovation and best practices across the agency. For instance, in the last year EPA started making its Quarterly Management Reports available to the public and created a new Program Analysis Division to identify and help implement methods to improve performance.

EPA most recently achieved green status in Strategic Management of Human Capital, which is led by the Office of Administration and Resource Management. EPA demonstrated that performance appraisals and award systems effectively link to agency mission, goals, and outcomes, and also met aggressive targets for closing gaps in mission critical occupations.
